Why not? Most states subsidize NFL teams. Why does the general public have to pay (via taxes) to build a rich white man a stadium for "his team" to play in? Sure would make it easier to have a successful business if the government paid for, built and maintaimed the infrastructure for ALL businesses while letting them keep all of the profits.

Oh they shouldn't subsidize any sports teams.
 
Sometimes it's a good payoff. Tons of jobs, full hotels and restaurants, and local business growth. Same reason great tax breaks for a big business to open up in cities.

Fee.com had a breakdown of NFL teams and stadiums a few years ago and in most cases the city lost money. This is partially due to bad contracts with the teams.

Jobs, hotels, and restraunts are there regardless of the city paying for the stadium. There is also the amount of people who live in the city who never benefit 1 cent from the stadium.

Tax breaks is money that doesn't come. Stadiums are actual checks (usually with bad lones) the city has to make. Huge difference.

Also,.some.teams.have moved even after the city has paid huge sums for renovations or a new stadium.
