I'll agree with ya on that. Bob is a good guy. But it looks like his discussion skills are failing him.
 
I think Bob and GTGT are a couple examples of people who may lean a little left, but are more centrist and reasonable, and do not represent the extremists the media focuses on.

Same could be said for most on the right. The large majority of us are reasonable people who have more in common than different, and could/can reasonably discuss, consider and see the opposing viewpoint respectfully (even if we choose to stick to our own original view).

But... two guys getting along doesn't generate paper sales, web clicks, or TV viewers so we're left to put up with all the assholes getting the air-time. Not to mention the last thing our government and certain other sectors want is to see The People united. Division keeps them in power...
 
Friends and neighbors shouldn't turn against one another because of different political views … but that's an almost-impossible happenstance.

Absolutely. A brisk, hearty discussion is good, but when it turns ugly there's usually no turning back. Unfortunately, I lost a life long friend because of politics. But, in my defense, the guy turned into an absolute nut case communist. And, every time I would prove him wrong he'd start with the insults. Apparently, if I don't agree with him I'm a fool, an idiot, an uneducated buffoon, and his favorite one, republican moron. You see, we grew up together. After school he went into the service, whereas I was 4F and chose music. Don't know what happened to him, but after spending 18 years in the military and schools he turned pure socialist and borderline communist. The problem now is he's been teaching our young minds for the last 15 or so years and filling them with his bullshit. Our arguments escalated to the point where I had no choice but to block him on FB. Something I had NEVER done, ever! I don't like to stand behind software because it makes me feel like the kids that need cry rooms. But, he was flooding, and I mean FLOODING my timeline with the shit from Marx, Stalin, all the Obama shit, and the list goes on. I had no choice but to stop it. Makes me sad cuz we've been thru thick and thin together since we were about 6 or 7 years old. I told him repeatedly to calm down and we can have civil discussions about things. Then he accused me of being afraid of the heat and unable to handle the hot topics. There was no reasoning with him. I had to pull the trigger.
 
The closer I get to retirement, the more socialist I'm becoming. Free housing, free healthcare, free medicine, free food... sounds like a pretty good backup plan if I don't save enough, my investments go to shit, inflation skyrockets, and SS ceases to exist.

Otherwise my backup plan will have to be some kind of high stakes financial fraud / pyramid scheme to get me booked into "Club Fed" in order to reap those cushy "retirement" perks! :Roflmao:

Well, unless I die an early age I didn't save enough. I'll run out in about 5 years IF the market stays pretty steady. Maybe I'll go to Venezuela. I hear from the kids that everything is perfect there.

Unfortunately, you're not alone. Not sure what advice I could possibly give... I have a little over 20 years (probably 25-30 for gov benefits by then), and while we're better off than most judging by reported numbers, I'm still unsure if it'll be enough - and that's assuming we stay fortunate and nothing big happens between now and then.

I hadn't thought of that. The DNC would then pay you to march back to the US. Upon arrival you will be given everything for free! Just don't let them know you're already a US citizen. You might have to change your name so it doesn't sound so American... perhaps Gregito? :cool: :Roflmao:
